Multi-channel Separation Prisms
Multi-channel separation prisms split the energy in an image to direct it to two or more image sensors. The splitting may direct particular wavelength bands to each output – chromatic splitting – or direct a fixed fraction of the total energy to each output – neutral splitting.

Optec provides chromatic and neutral splitters with two to five channels covering wavelengths from 300 to 3000 nm. Sizes are available to support image sensors from ¼ inch up to 24 x 36 mm and line scan imagers up to 28 mm long.

Separation Prism Configurations Autoclavable models now available!
Optec supplies prisms at all levels of assembly to meet the specific needs of each customer. From bare glass to multi-sensor aligned assemblies, Optec is prepared to provide prisms is small or large quantities.
Prism Glass Only
For initial experimentation, Optec supplies complete, cemented prisms with internal separation filters, matched optical distances and accurate, polished input and output surfaces in a variety of sizes.
Prism Glass with Trim Filters
Filters of nearly any kind can be cemented to the prism glass to modify the bandpass of each output port or to restrict the overall bandpass at the input. Optec carefully matches the filter thicknesses to assure equal optical path lengths.
Prism Glass with Mounts
For easier setup and alignment, Optec supplies prisms mounted to metal faceplates with standard lens mounts. As an option, each of the prism faces can be fitted with a holder for removable trim filters, adjustable sensor supports or both.
Aligned Prism Assemblies
In production, Optec supplies complete prism assemblies with sensors precisely aligned and cemented to the prism output ports. These assemblies can include lens mounts and filters at any or all of the input and output faces.
Complete Cameras
When the customer has selected particular camera to be used in a multi-channel assembly, Optec can disassemble the cameras, align the sensor boards on the prism and then reassemble the multi-channel electronics into a compact package.
